According to Solicitor-General Taco Stein on Monday, The Joint Court of Justice has approved the prosecution of Independent Parliamentarian, Patrick Illidge. The Prosecutor’s Office will decided today whether Patrick Illidge will be remanded into custody.
There was a closed hearing on December 17th 2013, to determine whether it was even possible to prosecute Illidge. According to the Ordinance on Prosecution of Political Authority ( Landsverordening Politieke Gezagdragers, Certain members in Government including Parliamentarians and Ministers could not be prosecuted while in office, due to political immunity, therefore there had to be a hearing to determine whether it was constitutional or legal to Prosecute MP Illidge.
Van den Heuvel was detained briefly last month, and then released.
Both Patrick Illidge and Jaap Van den Heuvel have claimed that the video tape was a ‘set-up’ arranged by Parliamentarian and leader of the United People’s Party, Theo Heyliger in order to bring Patrick Illidge back into Theo’ ‘fold’.
Patrick Illidge will be represented by Ralph Richardson.
The outcome is unclear, however it is already becoming obvious that many more in government will be implicated in 2014.
