Cancer kills about 25 people a year in St. Martin

According to a study by the regional health observatory of Guadeloupe, 25 people died each year between 2008 and 2013 of cancer in Saint-Martin. The mortality rate is 152 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. For comparison, it is 183 in St. Barthelemy, 177 in Guadeloupe and 221 in France hexagonal.

The cancers of the lung, breast and colon-rectum are the main developed; they account for 11.2%, 9.2% and 8.6% of cancer deaths in Saint-Martin.

Among people under 65, the premature death rate from cancer is 49 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, it is 57 in Saint-Barthélemy and Guadeloupe and 76 in metropolitan France.

Tumors are the second leading cause of premature death in St. Martin, accounting for almost one in five deaths among people under 65 years of age. Beyond this age, they account for 23% of mortality.
