Guardianship scheme for young people from the Caribbean part of the Dutch kingdom

Guardianship scheme for young people from the Caribbean part of the Dutch kingdom
Children from Bonaire, st. Eustatius and Saba (BES) and Curaçao, Aruba and St. Maarten (CAS) sometimes move to the Netherlands without their parents for study / work / care. The children then stay with family or friends. This can be compared to a network foster family.

There is one procedure for minors from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. If a child wishes to live in the Netherlands without an authoritative parent, the guardianship council of the island concerned requests the RvdK to investigate the intended temporary guardian. The RvdK advises the guardianship council on BES and CAS on this. After a stay of 3 months in the Netherlands, the RvdK again investigates the situation of the child. A statement of objection does not need to be requested for children from 17.5 years.
