Jorien Wuite

Sint Maartener In Da House! Biography: Jorien Wuite

“I want to tear down the walls that divide us”

I lived and worked on Sint Maarten for over twenty-two years. I have seen up close how Hurricane Irma forced society to its knees. But I also saw how people can get back on track, together with each other. How they show resilience under difficult circumstances. Also during the corona pandemic, the consequences of which are felt throughout the Kingdom. Let’s join forces and work together for a better Kingdom.

Building bridges

Connecting is paramount for me. I want to be a representative of all inhabitants of the Kingdom. I brought my two decades of experiences, encounters and knowledge to the House of Representatives. That Caribbean view is important. For example when it comes to policy choices and laws that also affect the Caribbean islands. I want to build bridges within the Kingdom. Because together we share a past, a present and also a future.

Caribbean seat

I think it has great added value that someone in parliament also brings in the view of the Caribbean part of the kingdom. As a real Kingdom child I am looking for connection, dialogue and reinforcement between all parts of the Kingdom. Conscious of my role as a black woman, in addition to working in the House of Representatives, I want to spend a lot of time in the country, participate in social internships and keep in touch with people throughout the Kingdom.
