SCDF says it eagerly awaits the reconvening of public meeting
The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) on Wednesday said it is eagerly looking forward to the reconvening of the public meeting of Parliament to finally address matters that the foundation believes most MP’s and the general public did not know about or in some way were misinformed.
The foundation said it specifically requested a very formal public meeting because it concerns time-sensitive issues and decisions that were made that has placed the SCDF in precarious positions. The foundation also extended thanks to the Chairlady of Parliament MP Grisha Heyliger-Marten for recognizing the urgency of the situation and assuring that the meeting will be rescheduled.
“We were fully prepared to inform the entire Parliament body with an in depth presentation last week. We were surprised when it was moved to a closed door meeting, but nonetheless proceeded to present the information to the MPs that stayed for that meeting, knowing that the agenda point for the public meeting was only postponed, not cancelled. The MP’s that stayed were receptive and we got the impression based on their comments that much of the information was new to them,” the SCDF said.
“Now we are eagerly looking forward to the reconvening of the public meeting so that the entire Parliament and the general public can be thoroughly informed. The foundation has been and is going through some extremely difficult times, compounded by recent developments which have stalled all operations,” the SCDF said.
“Our history, and that of ouhr hard-working volunteers and board members, is one of over-coming any obstacle placed in front of us. However, we are at a point now where everyone has to be made aware that outside actions can lead to dangerous consequences for the foundation which could ultimately ruin people’s lives.” the SCDF concluded.
