HEMMINGSTEDT, WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath visited ‘Raffinerie Heide’ in Hemmingstedt to take a look at the ‘preferred bidder’ Klesch Group facility in Northern Germany. CEO/ Managing Director Jürgen Wollschläger met with the Curaçao delegation and gave a tour around the modern facility.
The Prime Minister said on his social media that he had a very good first impression. “An innovative organization that continuously strives for operational excellence,” says the Premier.
Raffinerie Heide, or the Heide refinery, is, according to its own website, a partner for mobility and heating in northern Germany and is the northernmost refinery of crude oil in Germany. The website also states:
Mineral oil has a long tradition in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, and in particular in the Dithmarschen district. After all, oil chalk and crude oil have been extracted and refined here on the North Sea coast for more than 150 years. Every year, Raffinerie Heide processes more than four million tonnes of crude oil on its 134-hectare plant in Hemmingstedt.
If the negotiations in Curaçao are successful, the Klesch Group will take over the operations of the refinery in January 2020. The contract with the Venezuelan state oil company PdVSA will expire on December 31, 2019.
The Prime Minister remains confident that his government will succeed in keeping the refinery open.
