Aruba Hardest Hit By Covid 19 Of All Dutch Caribbean Islands.

The six Caribbean islands of the Kingdom are looking forward to starting the vaccination program. On Tuesday afternoon (local time) the first vaccines arrived from the Netherlands on Aruba and Bonaire. Curaçao expects to receive the first vaccines on Wednesday. Also on Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba people are ready for the vaccination programs. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics of Aruba, it is clear that this island has so far been the hardest hit of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.

Since March 7,438 persons in Aruba have been tested positive for Covid-19. Of these there were 7,062 inhabitants of the island, which corresponds to six percent. In Aruba, 68 civilians have died of the virus, approximately one percent of the number of infected people.

Most infections fell in the 25 to 54 age group, but the average age of the fatalities is 74 years. The youngest deceased was 36 years old and the oldest 94. Most of the deceased were older than 75 years. They usually had to deal with underlying health problems such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, high blood pressure and kidney problems.

Sint Maarten and Curaçao are among the number of infections in Aruba. For example, Sint Maarten has nearly two thousand infections and 27 deaths in more than forty thousand inhabitants. Curaçao, with over 150,000 inhabitants, has had more than 4,600 infections and 22 deaths. On the islands, the figures do not distinguish between residents and non-residents. On Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba the numbers are much smaller – also in percentage terms. https://www.rd.nl/artikel/914561-van-de-caribische-eilanden-is-aruba-zwaarst-getroffen-door-corona
