The Attorney General ordered an investigation of facts concerning allegations against the head of the VDC (Secret Service) Michael Romer.
Attorney General Of Curacao Insists They Are Not Investigating VDC Head Michael Romer, But Are On A ‘Fact Finding’ Mission
The Prosecutor’s Office received a report of a possible threat with a firearm by the head of the VDC, Michael Römer.
Given the seriousness of the allegation and Michael Romer’s position, the Attorney-General (PG) on October 11, 2016 has given the Lands Recherche (Federal Investigators)to to set up a fact-finding mission in the case. The purpose of this fact investigation is to find out what actually happened and to determine if there is a suspicion of an actual criminal offense.
The Prosecution stressed that there is currently no criminal investigation. At the moment no one is considered to be a suspect. Earlier reports by various media indicated that he was already facing e a criminal investigation by the Lands Recherche which is factually incorrect.
PG geeft opdracht tot feitenonderzoek in zaak VDC-hoofd
WILLEMSTAD – Het Openbaar Ministerie heeft een melding ontvangen van een mogelijke bedreiging met een vuurwapen door het hoofd van de VDC, Michael Römer.
Gezien de ernst van de beschuldiging en de positie van betrokkene, heeft de Procureur-Generaal (PG) op 11 oktober 2016 de Landsrecherche opdracht gegeven tot het instellen van een feitenonderzoek. Doel van dit feitenonderzoek is te achterhalen wat er feitelijk is gebeurd en vast te stellen of er een verdenking is van een strafbaar feit.
Het Openbaar Ministerie benadrukt dat er op dit moment geen sprake is van een strafrechtelijk opsporingsonderzoek. Thans is ook nog niemand als verdachte aangemerkt. Eerdere berichtgeving in diverse media dat er al een strafrechtelijk onderzoek zou lopen bij de Landsrecherche, waarin getuigen zouden zijn gehoord, is onjuist.
