PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – On Thursday afternoon the police SWAT team conducted a raid on an apartment in Simpson Bay.
The raid was based on a tip that there was illegal activity ongoing in the apartment.
Public Prosecutor Dounia Benammar told our news room that after the raid was completed, officers discovered over 200, 000 dollars in cash and three firearms.
Two jeeps were also seized by the authorities.
The residents of the home, male and female have been arrested and are now in custody as the investigation continues.
Prosecutor Benammar also confirmed that the arrested couple had three children who were in the apartment at the time of the raid by the police SWAT team.
At the request of the mother the children have been placed in the custody of a family member. At this time it is not clear if any other arrest will be made.
The charges against the couple now stand at suspected money laundering and weapon possession.
