Health blacklist
The United States health authorities have just added Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy to their list of strongly discouraged destinations, due to a very high risk of Covid contamination.E. Lefevre • Published on January 31, 2022 at 05:01
These three destinations, like the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, have been added by the CDC, the center for disease control, in other words the American Health Agency, to the list of level 4 countries, the alert level the highest, which corresponds to a very high risk of Covid contamination.
In the Caribbean, Barbados and the Bahamas were already part of this list of a hundred other countries for which the American health agency formally advises against all travel.
According to the CDC in these destinations, even people with a complete vaccination schedule are at risk of becoming infected and transmitting the virus due to the high presence of the Omicron variant.
This health recommendation comes just two months after the State Department had already advised American tourists not to travel to Guadeloupe due to the social unrest which, at the time, set the Archipelago ablaze.
This time, it is therefore because of the virus and its variants that the American authorities did not go to Guadeloupe, Saint Martin or Saint Barthélemy in addition to Jamaica, Barbados and the Bahamas.
A new blow for the tourist economy of these territories: more than 4.5 million American citizens travel to the Caribbean each year, between January and September. https://la1ere.francetvinfo.fr/guadeloupe/la-guadeloupe-saint-barthelemy-et-saint-martin-sur-la-liste-noire-sanitaire-des-etats-unis-1217101.html
