TROPICAL STORM NICOLE HURRICANE BERMUDA SHIPS DIVERT TO ST MAARTEN
An 10am BST advisory from the NOAA has confirmed that Nicole has once again strengthened to a Hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 100mph with some stronger gusts.The storm is moving northwest towards Bermuda at a speed of 7mph and is expected to turn north with increased velocity later today.
She is currently around 330 miles away from the Island and is likely to make a direct hit early Thursday morning with 110mph winds.
The NOAA warns that “preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion.”
Hurricane force winds extend out 30 mils from the centre of the storm, with tropical storm force winds extennging 115 miles out.
Hurricane conditions are expected to begin on Bermuda by Thursday morning, bringing between four and eight inches of rain – an increase from earlier predictions.
Rising sea levels will cause dangerous storm surges and coastal flooding.
