Oranjestad Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes (MEP) has offered the resignation of her cabinet to the governor. The reason is the suspicion against coalition party POR of embezzling public money.
Earlier today it was announced that the Public Prosecution Service had seized bank accounts of a foundation affiliated with the POR. The leader of the party, Justice Minister Andin Bikker, has in a written distance from the POR, which was already discredited last year because of suspicions against its former minister Oduber.
It is not known whether the fall of the Wever-Croes cabinet will bring forward the elections scheduled for September 24.
Oranjestad Government party POR is suspected of misappropriating public money. Before the money could be diverted, the Public Prosecution seized the bank accounts of the party headed by Minister of Justice Andin Bikker.
The Public Prosecution Service was prompted to report an unusual transaction to FIU-Aruba (Financial Intelligence Unit) (a so-called MOT report). These are alleged irregularities concerning the management of funds in a bank account of a foundation of the faction of the POR in the parliament of Aruba.
On behalf of the Attorney General, the report was further investigated by the Landsrecherche Aruba. On this basis, the suspicion of embezzlement arose. “ Because the money in this account is community money and the Public Prosecution wants to prevent this money from disappearing in one way or another, this is why this week some of the accounts that have been identified during the investigation so far have been seized has come according to the OM.
The National Criminal Investigation Department will conduct further investigation and during the investigation the Public Prosecution Service will not make any further statements about the content of the investigation, the persons involved or designated as suspects. Former POR minister Oduber had already come under suspicion. Another minister of the POR Marisol Lopez-Tromp was fired last year because she complained about abuses at some ministries.
