Dutch soldiers help with security for Venezuelans in Curaçao.
Dutch soldiers and military police are going to help in Curaçao to secure migrants from Venezuela, who are trapped in extra reception places. They are there because the SDKK prison on the island is overcrowded. The OM on Curaçao has made the application for the so-called hard assistance.
It means that the soldiers and military police are armed. 35 soldiers who are already stationed on the island will immediately be deployed for security 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are used for checks and must prevent Venezuelans from escaping.
Yesterday it came out that immigration lawyers in Curaçao say that the island’s government collectively arrested Venezuelans. The rapid expulsion would be contrary to the European Convention on Human Rights.
