The man held responsible for the death of two month old Mark Reid Jr. in Middle Region on April 2nd will have to stand trial on Septmeber 25th according to the Court of First Instance.
D. Le Blanc of Dominica was arrested on the scene of the crime and taken to the police station in Philipsburg immediately after the death of the baby.
The baby was found dead in the middle of Middle Region Road after Le Blanc allegedly snatched him out of his crib from his home at approx. 11:30pm. Police on the scene found a white Toyota vehicle that had struck and destroyed a concrete wall of a house onthe road next to a supermarket.
During the investigation of the traffic accident the olice saw a man approaching them who possible was the driver of the vehicle. The officers also noticed that the man was carrying something in his hand, which proved to be the already lifeless body of the baby.
The baby’s death was pronounced by a medical doctor and his body was confiscated for further a further investigation.
The Prosecutor’s Office requested the Court on WEdnesday, to postpone the hearing of this case until September 25th, because the forensic investigation in the case were not yet concluded.
Prosecutor Karola van Nie alsosaid that thepsychological analysis on the susect’s state of mind were not yet finalised. Attorney Bommel did not object to a postponement, but requested the Court for permission to submit additional questions on behalf of the defense to the psychiatrist at the Mental Health Foundation. Judge Tamar Tijhuis granted the request and set the new court date according to the Proscutor’s proposal.
