The Hague – The House of Representatives wants the Dutch government to take over the legal order on St Maarten for five years. A motion by the CDA artist Chris van Dam, to that effect, was adopted yesterday.
State Secretary Raymond Knops doesn’t like the motion, because it affects the autonomy of the island. But according to its own party, the CDA, law enforcement on St Maarten is a mess. Van Dam wants a letter from the cabinet about how the government intends to implement the motion.
