St Maarten DAMNED if you do, DAMNED if you don’t. WOMEN ARE JUST ‘DAMNED’.

1) It does not matter how small and insignificant a creature might be in the Caribbean. If you step on it, it will sting you…..No one and nothing just snaps, you have to apply pressure. Before the explosion, there is the catalyst.

2) If you are money motivated, you cannot be an activist or blogger. I don’t work for money, I struggle but I sleep. I’m okay with that.

3) Life becomes very difficult when you go against the grain, especially in a country as small as St Maarten. But because of who I am, and what I do… I have survived.

4) You cannot keep anyone close, it is so called FAMILY and so called Friends that they send at you. YOU CANNOT CARE ABOUT WHAT THEY CALL YOU, WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT YOU. But it is difficult not allowing them to get to you.

5) If you do what I do you maintain distance and isolation, not because of paranoia, but because of experience.

6) YES…. Some days will be hard, some days will be impossible. Some days you cannot get out of bed because you wonder, what is the use? You must be willing to listen to people trash you all day. Not because you did anything, but because people are afraid, and they were paid.

7) You have to believe that you are doing the right thing, when EVERYONE is telling you that you are doing the wrong thing.

8) You have to deal with more than just physical attacks. Some people are sent into your life just to undermine you, destroy your confidence, distract you, but you must perservere.

9) They will watch you until they believe you are at your weakest, to come in for the kill.

10) NOBODY does anything for free, there is always a motive, some behind the scenes movements.

11) In St Maarten they only raise you up, to cast you down. Tell you that you are doing wrong, but not how to do it right.

12) If they cannot use you as a pawn, you are NOBODY and nothing.

13) Intelligence and thinking are frowned upon, they only want people who follow orders.

14) They dress up in suits, to talk down to you, like you don’t know EVERYTHING about them.

15) They go to church, not to see God, but for you to SEE them

16) They congregate every day, just to watch you walk by. They don’t realize that if they were as focused on their own lives, they would be doing better with no time to worry about you.

17) The people trying to distract and disuade you from doing you, calling you a failure, have a fear of failure. They don’t know that it takes failure to succeed.

18) Non conformity is very MUCH discouraged in St Maarten, so if you are the slightest bit different you are punished. Guess what? If you conform for people you will NEVER be happy. You punish yourself anyway.

19) I CHOOSE to do what I do knowing the consequences. I believe I am on earth for a reason, just like you. Because of that reason, my life will never be easy. As a female, nothing is supposed to be easy in the Caribbean, I have come to terms with that.

20) I had to choose between comforts and being able to sleep at night, I chose sleep.

21) I realize in St Maarten a long time ago that when you don’t allow people to abuse you, use you, prey on you, victimize you… You make enemies

22) In St Maarten you do not have to do anything but defend yourself and tell the TRUTH to make very powerful enemies. So I have A LOT OF ENEMIES. But I sleep at night.

23) You have two choices in St Maarten. Suffer in silence or speak out and suffer the consequences.

24) I have issues speaking with my tie tongue and lisp, so I Express myself better when writing …

25) Before I get back to the dishes, I have to reiterate… DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE… THEN CRY THAT SOMEONE SNAPPED. I practice a lot of restraint. I am Too restrained. Because I am a female of small stature. I am seen as an easy target. If I respond. It does

It’s Not Sint Maarten Vs. The Dutch. It Is Grisha Marten Vs. Sarah Wescot Williams And Melissa Gumbs

“Wescot-Williams wondered how something like this could take place without any prior information to the Parliament of St. Maarten.

“In questioning and strongly objecting to this modus operandi of the presidium of Parliament in the meeting of this morning [Wednesday], which regretfully was closed-door, reference was constantly made of the motion of November of last year. It seems to be that the supporters of that motion of last year regarding decolonisation are of the opinion that their president/presidium of Parliament has carte blanche where it pertains to contacting services and firms based on that motion.

“I want to make it clear that I emphatically reject this type of an operation by the Parliament of St. Maarten. I emphatically reject that we, the people of St. Maarten, and I take off cap as MP for a moment, are subjected to this kind of treatment on a topic such as this – that the Parliament feels it’s okay, together with a firm in Washington and the presidium of Parliament, to decide what is presented.”

Wescot-Williams is concerned that the petition will put the country’s liquidity support in jeopardy.

“This presentation concludes by asking and requesting that basically the COHO [Caribbean Reform and Development Body] be revisited. The parliament and the presidium of parliament, by endorsing this presentation made by the Choharis Law Group of Washington, actually have put the liquidity assistance provided and agreed to for St. Maarten in jeopardy.

“Why am I so convinced of this? The agreement signed between the Prime Minister [Jacobs] and [Dutch State Secretary for Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Raymond – Ed.] Knops states that any indication that there is no support for the draft COHO legislation would cancel the agreement regarding the liquidity assistance and the country packages, etc.

“This is an undermining of the government and its efforts to secure financing for the people of St. Maarten. … You have those MPs charged with the leadership of parliament feel that they can take the entire parliament along – all 15 MPs – for a ride in this fashion.

“I reject it and I oppose even the semblance that that presentation represents this MP, the UD faction in Parliament.”

United Democrats (UD) MP Sarah Wescot-Williams rejected and strongly opposed petition submitted by States to United Nations

Philipsburg – United Democrats (UD) MP Sarah Wescot-Williams rejected and strongly opposed petition submitted by States to United Nations earlier this week to investigate violations of the law of the UN mandate on full self-government for the people of Sint Maarten. According to Wescot-Williams, the document does not represent her, neither as a member of Parliament nor as a citizen of Sint Maarten, nor her party. The petition jeopardizes the country’s liquidity support, says the parliamentarian. Wescot-Williams wondered how such a thing could happen without prior information to the Parliament of Sint Maarten, “In questioning and strongly objecting to this modus operandi of the presidium of parliament during Wednesday’s session, which unfortunately was closed, there was constant reference to last November’s motion. It appears that the supporters of last year’s decolonization motion believe that their Speaker / Presidium of Parliament has carte blanche when it comes to contacting services and businesses based on that motion, ”said Wescot-Williams. “I want to make it clear that I strongly disapprove of these kinds of actions by the States of Sint Maarten. I strongly reject that we, the residents of Sint Maarten, undergo such treatment and that the parliament thinks it is okay to decide, together with a firm in Washington and the presidium of the States, on what is presented. ” Wescot-Williams is concerned that the petition will jeopardize the country’s liquidity support. “This petition ends with a request to essentially re-examine the Coho (Caribbean Body for Reform and Development). The parliament and the presidium of the parliament, by endorsing this presentation of the Choharis Law Group of Washington, have actually endangered the provided and agreed liquidity support for Sint Maarten ”, says the assistant government member. “Why am I so convinced of this? The agreement between the Prime Minister and State Secretary for the Interior and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops states that any indication of no support for the draft Coho legislation will cancel the agreement on liquidity support and the country packages. ” Wescot-Williams said the petition “undermines the government and its efforts to secure funding for the people of St. Martin.” “You have those members of parliament who are in charge of parliament, who have the feeling that they can take the entire parliament – all 15 members of Parliament – for a ride in this way. In any case, I reject the petition and I am against the appearance that it represents this Member of Parliament and the UD group in Parliament.

Black community to fight racism w/ Black Manifesto Various organizations from black community in the Netherlands have jointly launched a ‘Black Manifesto’

TODAY, 20:07 Black community wants to fight racism with Black Manifesto
Various organizations from the black community in the Netherlands have jointly launched a ‘Black Manifesto’. In doing so, they say they want to combat institutional black racism and promote emancipation in the Netherlands.

Not everyone in the Netherlands is treated equally and not every Dutch person has the chance of an equal existence, as stated in Article 1 of the Constitution, according to the authors of the manifesto . We can read that there is an urgent need for change in twelve social areas. For each domain, goals and concrete action points have been formulated to tackle racism and other forms of inequality.

“Institutional racism in the Netherlands takes place in all segments of our society, including in education, on the housing market, in healthcare, in the media and in education. Black LGBTQIA + persons have both anti-black racism and queer -hate “, write the participating organizations, including Stichting Nederland Wordt Beter, The Black Archives / New Urban Collective, Zetje In and Black Queer & Trans Resistance NL.

Enter into conversation
“People can view the manifesto and discuss it. The organizations that are now participating are committed to implementing the manifesto”, says Jerry Afriyie, one of the initiators and also known as an activist and leader of the Kick Out Zwarte Piet action group.

“The intention is that in the coming weeks more companies, political parties and civil society organizations will support the manifesto, to ensure that racism is counteracted in all areas of society.”

Slavery Remembrance Day
On March 25, the International Day of Remembrance Victims of Slavery, the Black Manifesto will be officially presented at an event. “That is nine months after the Black Lives Matter demonstration on Dam Square in Amsterdam. So this manifesto also feels like a child,” said Afriyie.

That demonstration caused a lot of commotion last year, because despite the corona measures, many people came and rapper Akwasi there made the controversial statement “the moment I see a Zwarte Piet in November, I personally kick him in the face”.

That led to multiple charges, but the OM dismissed the case after Akwasi renounced those statements.

Oscar Winning ‘Raging Bull’, Was Rewritten By Martin Scorsese And Robert De Niro In Sint Maarten

Oscar Winning ‘Raging Bull’, Was Rewritten By Martin Scorsese And Robert De Niro In Sint Maarten: The making of a heavyweight, Scorsese and De Niro behind the scenes of Raging Bull – in pictures. The award-winning biopic of Jake LaMotta was released 40 years ago. With these exclusive images, Jay Glennie, who interviewed the cast and crew for a new book, reveals secrets of the film’s shoot
The makeup artist Mike Westmore had the job of sculpting a replica of Jake LaMotta’s nose on to Robert De Niro’s face. This would allow for the required blood to be squirted from his nose, cheeks and mouth. Westmore reported that, while his face was covered in plaster, De Niro was “cool, calm and so relaxed he fell asleep”, with the sound of a gentle snore echoing around his work studio.

De Niro was given a copy of LaMotta’s autobiography by LaMotta (right). Inside the cover, he inscribed: “To Bob De Niro! According to Pete [Savage, LaMotta’s childhood friend] – the only actor in the world that could play my crazy ‘whacked out’ life and make it come alive again … With love, Jake LaMotta.” De Niro said he was suitably intrigued and took the book to Scorsese.
Robert De Niro: “We took it slowly, but we knew [Joe Pesci] was the one to play my brother. We did see another kid from Manhattan and he was terrific – he was Italian and he was great – but Joe was strong. We saw Joey LaMotta not just as a poor little brother, but as tough as Jake. That was important and we knew Pesci was the one.”

Cathy Moriarty was spotted by Joe Pesci after winning a bathing suit competition in a New York nightclub. After months of reading with De Niro, she was asked to film an audition. The producer Irwin Winkler recalled that they never bothered viewing the tape; they all knew she was perfect to play LaMotta’s young bride. Looking back on her film debut, she said: “I’ll be for ever grateful to Bob and Marty for the opportunity for the rest of my life.”

De Niro heavily annotates all his scripts and Raging Bull was no different. His archives show that no detail is too small.

Martin Scorsese: “I firmly believed [Raging Bull] was going to be my last American film. I was going to go to Europe and do smaller European films. So I put everything in it. I didn’t care about anything. Kamikaze. I was going to make it the best film that I could.”

PFP: Petition Is Poor Start to Decolonization Discussion.

PFP: Petition Is Poor Start to Decolonization Discussion.
PFP Members of Parliament Melissa Gumbs and Raeyhon Peterson once again reiterated their faction’s distance from the 5 November 2020 motion of Parliament relating to the “decolonization process,” after Parliament received a copy of a petition submitted by the Choharis Law Group to the United Nations’ Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner’s Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Racism and the Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent.

The petition, totaling 37 pages with appendices, was sent to Parliament thirty minutes before the start of a closed-door meeting of the Committee for Constitutional Affairs & Decolonization, a fact the PFP says gives the impression that the meeting itself was called as a formality to share a document that had already been shared externally. The closed-door nature, they lament, seems to have been to prevent the deconstruction of the petition from occurring in front of the very people the proponents of the motion and the law firm claim to represent. PFP remarks that the document itself, while written by a supposed international law firm, uses very little legal arguments to make its case that St. Maarten is being racially discriminated against. There are also several blatant lies within the document, the most obvious of which is on page three.

“The document states that St. Maarten was forced to enter into agreement for the CFT,” PFP says, “but it has been acknowledged and admitted, both in the press and on the floor of Parliament, that the architects of our country status agreed to the creation of the CFT. It was to our understanding that anything related to this committee and its processes would be based on facts, and not emotional fiction.”

The petition oddly makes mention of Curacao and Aruba, who were famously part of the original proposal received by Parliament. This proposal was briefly discussed on the floor of Parliament and several questions were posed by Gumbs to the Prime Minister on the matter. The original proposal included a ‘golden’ discount of 91% of their fee in the event all three islands signed on, however, there has been no confirmation received if Curacao and Aruba have committed. Further to that, the faction is concerned from a geopolitical perspective how such actions may heighten tensions between Sint Maarten and the Netherlands. The concern is that this will affect the ongoing discussions around liquidity support.

“Have the self-styled 12 disciples, in taking on the role of Government, considered a contingency to provide for the 4,000 households still receiving food packages? Do we realize that the money funding both the public sector and the SSRP, is Dutch aid money?” the faction asked. “The money that’s allowing us to take care of our most basic needs from water and light to food on the table and roofs over our heads is all aid money. Are the recipients of this aid the same persons that the petition identifies as the victims of racial oppression? Oppression is very present but more from the persons who have failed to create the necessary safety nets that have put us in such a precarious and desperate position. The creation of a poverty line, a cornerstone of PFP’s manifesto, is an autonomous responsibility, along with minimum wage, social welfare and many of the topics addressed in the petition.”

PFP also questioned the role of Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs in this current situation, as she is officially the representative of the country on the international stage.

“Some may say that as per article 44 of the Constitution of St. Maarten,” PFP states, “that Parliament represents the people of St. Maarten and that this petition ‘fulfills’ that representation. But that is a very cute use of word play and semantics. Because if you read the official Explanatory Memorandum on this article of our Constitution, it specifically states that Parliament does not act on behalf of the people of Sint Maarten in the way that a representative acts on behalf of the party it represents. Parliament solely represents the people of St. Maarten towards the Government of St. Maarten and within the boundaries of the Constitution of St. Maarten. Outside of these 16 square miles, the country of St. Maarten is represented by the Government of St. Maarten, headed by the Prime Minister. We see her presence nowhere in this petition.”

The most insidious part of the engagement of this firm, the tone and content of the petition and the complete lack of transparency regarding ‘the process’ is that in all of it, the people of St. Maarten remain in the dark.

“This motion of 5 November 2021 is being used as carte blanche for saying and sending whatever fits the agenda of its proponents,” PFP concluded. “As a faction, we were against the contents of the motion from the very beginning. For a Parliament, in a parliamentary democracy, to believe it can contract legal representation for both Parliament and Government is ludicrous. At every step of the way, the people have been excluded from the process. From Pro Soualiga Foundation to the Choharis Law Group, we have organizations speaking on behalf of the people because twelve members of Parliament decided they should. Sometimes it seems that some of the twelve do not care about the actual will of the people, going so far as to say that the people do not have to be consulted during this process. This faction does not believe in that and want to make that clear, once again, to the people.” https://www.soualiganewsday.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=36453:pfp-petition-is-poor-start-to-decolonization-discussion&Itemid=450

The Dutch corona support is a return to colonial times. So says Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs in The Washington Post.

PHILIPSBURG The Dutch corona support is a return to colonial times. That says Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs in The Washington Post. The newspaper quotes the Prime Minister of Saint Martin as saying it is about a racial settlement in the Caribbean. Jacobs thereby refers to the conditions her island had to agree to in order to receive corona support. This week, Sint Maarten filed a petition with a UN special rapporteur on racism, accusing the Netherlands of racial discrimination and violations of international rights. https://curacao.nu/coronasteun-sint-maarten-is-terugkeer-naar-koloniale-tijd/
