Tropic Ocean Airways Launching Big Caribbean Seaplane Expansion. Charters to St Maarten

Tropic Ocean Airways, the Fort Lauderdale-based airline specializing in seaplane flights, is launching a major expansion in the Caribbean.

Tropic Ocean plans to establish a base of amphibious airplanes in Puerto Rico, the company’s CEO, Rob Ceravolo, said this week.

The airline’s new San Juan base will complement its existing bases in Fort Lauderdale and Miami, from which it operates a network of regularly-scheduled and charter services focused on The Bahamas.

The new flights will include private charters, scheduled flights, “dock to yacht” and cargo services.

That will include domestic flights to all Puerto Rico airports, along with service to Vieques and Culebra and the neighboring US and British Virgin Islands, among other destinations.

Charter flights will include destinations like the BVI, Necker Island, Antigua, St Maarten, St Kitts, Nevis and Anguilla, the company said.

Flights will depart both from the Jet Aviation fixed-base operator at Luis Munoz Marin airport, along with the Bahia Urbana dock in Old San Juan.

Tropic Ocean’s fleet of Cessna Grand Caravan EX aircraft has seating for up to eight guests.

“Modern amphibious seaplane service has been proven to improve connectivity in hard-to-reach areas with less environmental impact,” Ceravolo said. “Our entire team of over 100 aviation professionals is committed to our investment in the Puerto Rico tourism and aviation industries, and we are very grateful for the opportunity to bring our luxury service to the island. We are excited to call Puerto Rico our second home and look forward to growing in the region.”

“At the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, we welcome Tropic Ocean Airways to the Island, as they begin the first stage of operations in Puerto Rico with an aircraft that will use San Juan as its base port, but will have the ability to take off and land anywhere on the Island, whether by sea or land,” said Carla Campos, Puerto Rico’s top local tourism official. “In addition to expanding our air access, the establishment of San Juan as the second base of operations for Tropic Ocean Airways strengthens the positioning of our Island as the connector of the Caribbean region and has the potential to increase passenger movement and creation of new jobs in the short and long term.”

In a region where airlift within the Caribbean continues to pose a big challenge, Tropic Ocean’s Caribbean entry could be a significant addition.

OM: Ridouan Taghi gave motor club Caloh Wagoh assassination orders. One suspect detained in SXM

Ridouan Taghi, according to the Public Prosecutor (OM) motor club Caloh Wagoh has given several murder orders, justice said Friday at a trial in the trial against members of the motor club. The lawsuit that is not yet being dealt with in substance, is now about a total of twelve murders, or attempts or preparations for this.

The attempt and the actual shooting of a house in Doorn is also one of the indictments of the total of twelve suspects prosecuted for various facts.

The public prosecutor said that the chief witness in this case, Tony de G., stated that most of the murder assignments “came from the sleeve of Taghi”. It was not made clear which liquidations, or attempts to do this, were specific. Taghi will not be prosecuted in this process for the time being.

Delano R., one of the founders of Caloh Wagoh, was described by the OM as subcontractor of Taghi. Crown witness De G. has stated that R. in turn passed on the orders for the murders to three so-called murder commands within his motorcycle club.

The assignments were divided “according to who was available”, the officer said. Crown witness De G., said to have been part of one of these liquidation teams.

Arrested suspicious intermediaries abroad
The recently arrested Feno D. (34) in St. Maarten and the B. arrested in Spain, acted as intermediaries according to the officer. They let R. know which people had to be killed.

Amounts from 70,000 euros to 90,000 euros were offered for this. Evidence for this has become clear, because R. presumably took photos and recordings of the messages in which the orders for liquidations were given.

The mutual communication was described as a “cow trade in the killing of people,” the officer said. “As if it were Brabant sausage rolls, people are being killed.”

Caloh Wagoh is said to have also worked for Turkish criminals
The crown witness also stated that Caloh Wagoh also worked for Turkish criminals. Suspect Greg R., who also has a high position within Caloh Wagoh, was, according to De G., the person who maintained these contacts.

The murder orders were then passed on to Delano R. An example of this is the liquidation on Zeki Yumusak in July 2017 in Rotterdam.

Greg R.’s lawyer, Christian Flokstra, stated that his client has always kept away from murders and therefore denies all involvement. He was indeed involved with the club, but was not a counselor as described by the OM.

The defense of the suspects criticized the fact that they could not yet hear the crown witness themselves. The lawyers point out that the suspicions against their clients are based on De G.’s statements and that they cannot defend themselves in this way.

Justice pays attention to the murder of Derk Wiersum
At the start of the session, the OM also considered the murder of lawyer Derk Wiersum in mid-September. “A life that has been taken away because, it seems, this lawyer did his job,” the officer referred to assisting crown witness Nabil B. in the Marengo trial by Wiersum.

The OM made it clear that this

7 New Judges Dutch Caribbean Joint Court

No fewer than seven new judges were installed at the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba last month. Two of them are “from local soil,” Eunice Saleh, President of the Court, proudly stated in her speech during the installation.

Saleh emphasized the importance of the Court’s ‘Caribbeanization’ for the countries and the judiciary. In that context, she says, significant steps have been taken in recent years: almost 50 percent of the members come from one of the (egg) countries. Five local judges were appointed between September 2018 and September 2019 alone. “The Court has always expressed in the same breath with Caribbean that assistance from judges from the Netherlands, who bring their own experience and expertise, remains highly desirable,” said Saleh, who said that the Court will continue the policy of Caribbeanization in the coming years.

Also when presenting the annual report of the Common Court it was emphasized that the Court continues to strive to attract more local judges.

CASE LAW

The Common Court of Justice, which celebrated its 150th anniversary on 1 May, has four branches that serve all six (egg) countries. The Court takes care of the case law in first instance and on appeal on the islands and is formed by a president and the other members and deputy members. The members deal with civil, criminal and administrative matters, including tax issues, both at first instance and on appeal.

Videos: ‘The Netherlands must act quickly on St Maarten’

THE HAGUE – State Secretary Raymond Knops (Kingdom Relations) can prepare for a solid debate with the House of Representatives. More and more parties want him to intervene in the reconstruction of Sint-Maarten.

The House of Representatives is “seriously concerned” now that the island has entered a political and constitutional crisis. After the Romeo-Marlin cabinet fell last month, this week the question arises whether the new elections in November can go ahead.Various coalition and opposition parties want to hear from State Secretary Knops next week “what scenarios are available” from The Hague to guarantee the reconstruction of the island. This is apparent from a survey.More parties want to intervene in St. Maarten

Last week, the CDA and VVD said they were thinking of intervening on St Maarten via the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom. Both coalition parties want Knops to inform the House of Representatives as quickly as possible about the possibilities. Now it appears that the PvdA opposition party is also in favor of administrative intervention after the fall of the Romeo-Marlin cabinet. “Repairing roofs, the airport and starting the economy” should not be endangered “by political fuss and mess,” says MP Attje Kuiken. “I certainly expect the State Secretary to intervene in these matters.”Administrative intervention is not yet under discussion, says D66 MP Antje Diertens. The coalition party first wants to know from the State Secretary himself “what exactly is going on” and what talks have yielded so far. Knops was on the island last week for a planned working visit.”Reconstruction through, even without St Maarten politics”

Diertens (D66) does want the Netherlands to intervene in a different way. According to D66, residents of St. Maarten must be able to count on good psychological care since Hurricane Irma. Diertens wants the Dutch cabinet to take action by deploying aid organizations to this through the World Bank. The SP also wants clarity from Knops next week about which projects the Netherlands can undertake during the reconstruction. “So what we can do, outside the government [of St. Maarten],” says MP Ronald van Raak. The SP is concerned about the years of political instability and corruption on the island. “It is of course very strange that we are going to build an autonomous country outside of their government. It is a situation that is unprecedented, “says Van Raak. “At the moment, making agreements with any government of St Maarten makes little sense.”Next week debate with KnopsNext week the annual debate will take place about the money and support from the Hague for the Caribbean empires. In practice, that debate is mainly about current events. The CDA tried behind the scenes to schedule a moment this week to put the cabinet to the test. But that was not possible due to the busy agenda of the Chamber.

St Maarten Elections Postponed Until January

The parliamentary elections in St Maarten are postponed for a month and a half to 9 January. Governor Eugene Holiday had to decide to do so on Thursday because of the departure of the members of the central electoral committee. They left earlier this week because they felt they had too little time to organize the elections.

The members of the central electoral committee have left because they were unable to fulfill their legal duties, President Jason Rogers told the government. Due to the tight planning, it would be impossible, among other things, to register new parties and to announce in time that candidates can register. Voters were also unable to register on time. “All kinds of legal deadlines are in the past,” he wrote, according to local media in the letter in which the electoral office announced its departure.

St Maarten must go to the polls early because of the fall of the cabinet last week. Prime Minister Leona Marlin-Romeo lost her majority after the departure of two parliamentarians, partly due to the poor reconstruction after the devastating hurricane Irma. Due to the storm in 2017, the previous elections also had to be postponed.

The island of Sint Maarten consists of a Dutch and a French part. The Dutch part is an independent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Governor Holiday has been appointed by King Willem-Alexander and is not a member of the cabinet.

OPINION: Whether in the U.S. or the Caribbean, politics are crazy – The Sunflower

FILE+PHOTO%3A+Supporters+hold+signs+during+the+rally+for+solidarity+in+downtown+Wichita.+%28Aug.+13%2C+2017%29

As a political science major, it is extremely important for me to keep on top of what’s happening in the world.

When you are an international student who is a political science major, it is even more important to understand the current sociopolitical climate in both your country and region of origin and current country of residence.

This is quite an interesting experience for me as both of these countries are going through some kind of political turmoil.

I am from the two-nation island of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin. Sint Maarten is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Saint Martin is a Collectivity of France.

I am from the Dutch side of the island, and since 2010, the year we were awarded our country status, our government has not been stable.

Our political system is a parliamentary system, similar to the British. In this system, parliament can send home the government, which is the executive branch, and the government can retaliate and invoke Article 59 in our constitution and call for elections.

Article 59 was invoked just last September when the parliamentary majority was no more, and parliament did not support the current government.

Now you may be wondering to yourself, why is this that big of an issue? Well, when you have had nine governments in the span of nine years, it’s a problem — a big problem.

This is an even bigger issue when all the members of the voting bureau, the office that’s in charge of making sure that elections are free and fair democratic contests, resigns.

As someone who will eventually plan and work with the policies of my country, this is some bad history to deal with. As someone who keeps up to date on the turmoil, it is really stressful to deal with. Unfortunately, all I can do now is sit and observe what’s happening.

If you haven’t heard the latest American political news yet, it’s obvious that you’ve been living under a rock, but the Democrats in the House of Representatives have finally launched an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.

I’ll be honest with you. I personally found that it took too long for them to start impeachment proceedings, but the time is finally here. I am not a fan of the media praising Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the white freshman representatives, when it’s been clear that the POC freshmen one of the team’s only meets outside of the Midwest this season representatives were calling for impeachment as soon as they won their seats.

However, I’ll accept that it’s finally happening. Now folks might be wondering, why am I, an international student, invested in United States politics?

Well, two things: again, I am a political science major, and also, when America sneezes, the Caribbean catches the cold. And us catching the cold is the last thing we need right now.

The impeachment process is a very delicate process that the House and the Senate have to deal with. Many political scientists are certain that it would pass the House, but the investigation has to bring very detailed and damning information for the Senate to convict.

Also, there are many other worries that I and others have if Trump actually gets impeached. Everyone knows that Vice President Mike Pence is extremely conservative. His policies and ideologies lean so much to the right that even some conservatives call out the extremes.

He is also an actual experienced politician and knows the system pretty well. Having a president that intense would push back a lot of the social development this country has seen.

My second worry is Donald Trump deciding that he might not leave the White House. We know it’s a common trope for many people in this country, both liberals and conservatives, to think and say that these things only happen in “third-world countries” and not here because our democracy it too strong.

Well, when you have such terms as #CivilWarSignUps trending on Twitter, there is definitely a problem.

I personally do not have a clear and easy solution for any of this. My advice to those who are eligible to vote is to do your research and make the right decision for you. If you are eligible to vote and you don’t want to, as an outsider, I don’t blame you.

The political arena is messy, and it’s tricky, and it’s really designed for one type to win, but change will come eventually. The question of whether it’s good or bad is up to you. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to scream at every news article my mom sends me.
