ORANJESTAD (ANP) – The British variant of the corona virus has been found in Aruba. The Aruban authorities have received official confirmation from the Netherlands on Monday. The British variant emerged in five tests that were sent to the Netherlands. In two cases these are people visiting the island, in three cases residents of the island. It is not stated from which country the visitors come.

Eighteen new corona infections were registered in Aruba on Monday. The number of infections is 391.

In the coming days, it will be decided what measures should be taken to prevent further spread. The authorities advised the population on Monday to limit family visits. And also avoid contact with others as much as possible, both during and outside work.

In Curaçao, the government immediately took measures on Monday evening (local time). Everyone flying from Aruba to Curaçao is now (January 26) obliged to do a PCR test. The government also advises against anyone to fly to Aruba, but only go if necessary.
