June 1 Community Removes Wrecks In Lagoon Saint Martin

The community proceeds with the removal of boat wrecks in the lagoon

140 wrecks were listed in 2018. They will be removed and dismantled at the Sandy Ground shipyard by the contract holder KOOLE, then recycled at the Grandes Cayes ecosite. KOOLE is specialized in the field, it treated the wrecks of Sint Maarten last year.

This public project represents an investment of 5.5 million euros financed with significant help from European funds (85%). The community was finally able to complete this cleaning project started in 2018 and upset for administrative reasons.

The first wrecks were taken out of the water on Monday May 30, under the satisfied gaze of President Louis Mussington and his vice president in charge of the Living Environment Frantz Gumbs.

The objective of the community is to clean the lagoon and secure this maritime space. Several months of intervention will be necessary to carry out this major operation.

La collectivité procède à l’enlèvement des épaves de bateau dans le lagon

140 épaves ont été répertoriées en 2018. Elles seront enlevées et démantelées sur le chantier naval de Sandy Ground par la société KOOLE titulaire du marché, puis recyclées à l’écosite de Grandes Cayes. KOOLE est spécialisée dans le domaine, elle a traité les épaves de Sint Maarten l’année dernière.

Ce chantier public représente un investissement de 5.5 millions d’euros financés avec l’aide significative des fonds européens (85%). La collectivité a enfin pu aboutir ce projet de nettoyage engagé en 2018 et contrarié pour raisons administratives.

Les premières épaves ont été sorties de l’eau lundi 30 mai, sous le regard satisfait du président Louis Mussington et de son vice président en charge du Cadre de Vie Frantz Gumbs.

L’objectif de la collectivité est de nettoyer le lagon et de sécuriser cet espace maritime. Plusieurs mois d’intervention seront nécessaires pour mener cette opération d’envergure.
