Page 1 of 4: The Judicial Four Party Consultation (JVO) took place on 14 January 2021, the semi-annual consultations between the four justice ministers of the countries in the Kingdom. The State Secretary for the Interior and Kingdom Relations took over also participate in the consultation. I hereby inform your House also on behalf of the State Secretary for the Interior and Kingdom Relations on the joint effort on law enforcement and on the main points of the JVO. 1
This letter has been shared with our fellow ministers from Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. Main points of the JVO January 2021
Due to the COVID-19 situation, this time the JVO took place via video conference.
Among other things, the following topics were discussed:
Information exchange and data protection
The Kingdom currently has different protection regimes for
personal data. Also the level of the respective
protection regimes differs. In practice, this creates obstacles to the
sharing of data between countries in the Kingdom, especially in the
(operational) cooperation between investigative services.
During the JVO, the four ministers therefore commissioned the
drafting of a Kingdom Act that aims to achieve a harmonized
level of protection of personal data, and police, judicial and
criminal records within the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. The
agreement with this assignment is also part of the country packages of
Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. With this statute law will not only be a solution
are offered for functional data sharing for the purpose of the
police cooperation and investigation, but also a broad basis
