LATEST: Tropical Storm Grace to pass 100 miles from Sint Maarten. Heavy Rainfall Expected. Country Under a Tropical Storm Warning

SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) – At 5:00 PM (2100 UTC), the center of tropical storm Grace was located near latitude 15.9 North, longitude 60.7 West or about 220 miles east southeast of Sint Maarten, the Meteorological Department of Sint Maarten said in its latest bulletin. The system is moving quickly toward the west near 26 mph (43 km/h). A motion toward the west-northwest with a gradual decrease in forward speed is expected during the next few days.

The center of tropical storm Grace has been located further south at 5 pm as a result, on this current forecast track, the system is now expected to pass approximately 100 miles south of Sint Maarten early Sunday morning.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is expected during the next day or two.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 35 (55 km) miles to the north of the center.

ARCHIVED – SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) – Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate on Saturday night as Tropical Storm Grace approaches Sint Maarten and the other Leeward Islands. On Friday evening Sint Maarten’s watch was upgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning.

The Meteorological Department of Sint Maarten (MDS) said at 2.00pm Grace was located 310 miles east southeast of Sint Maarten. Grace is forecast to past 45 miles south of the country on Sunday morning.

MDS adds that the storm could produce heavy rainfall and winds up to 45 miles per hour with higher gusts from Saturday night into Sunday.

MDS: Residents in areas prone to flooding or near the coast should complete preparations to protect life and property.

St Maarten Latest Covid 19 Numbers Deaths 345 Active Cases 40 Dead

As of August 14th, there were twenty one (21) persons who tested positive for COVID-19. Please note that there is a small backlog with processing the data entry and CPS was not able to get through the recoveries today. The total active cases is three hundred forty five (345). The total number of confirmed cases is now three thousand one hundred eighty five (3185).

The Collective Prevention Services (CPS) are monitoring three hundred thirty one (331) people are in home isolation. Fourteen (14) patients are hospitalized at the St. Maarten Medical Center. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains at forty (40).

The number of people recovered since the first case surfaced on St. Maarten remains at two thousand eight hundred (2800). Two hundred thirty six (236) people are in quarantine based on contact tracing investigations carried out by CPS.

The SXM RESISTANCE French side movement was the first on the scene at the Dutch side call for protest infront of the government building.
After an hour, I give the order for my team to leave the premises and head back to the French side cause the brothers and sisters of the south side did not show up.
My partner took the plane all the way from France to be at that Dutch side protest and was the first on the scene but you that live on the Dutch side of the island could not be there.
I don’t know if the word SHAME that I should use.
If you cannot stand up for yourself then we from the north side will not stand up in your place.
Strength and courage goes out to our brothers and sisters on the south side on their future plans for protest.
Our north side protest against MANDATORY Vaccination and Health Pass for tomorrow Saturday, August 14 2021 is still on the go from 6am at the Agrément Roundabout.

Le mouvement côté français SXM RESISTANCE a été le premier sur les lieux lors de l’appel à manifester côté néerlandais devant le bâtiment du gouvernement. The Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor, Omar Ottley hereby extends his sympathy to the family and friends of Sint Maarten’s 40th COVID-19 victim, who has passed away. Minister Ottley wishes the family strength during their time of bereavement.

As of August 13th, there were thirty six (36) persons who tested positive for COVID-19; however nineteen (19) persons have recovered; bringing the total active cases to three hundred twenty four (324). The total number of confirmed cases is now three thousand one hundred sixty four (3164).

The Collective Prevention Services (CPS) are monitoring three hundred eight (308) people are in home isolation. Sixteen (16) patients are hospitalized at the St. Maarten Medical Center. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 has increased to forty (40).

Minister Knops Sends Parliament Sint Maarten’s 39th Committee Progress Report. The Senate has received the same letter.

The number of people recovered since the first case surfaced on St. Maarten has increased to two thousand eight hundred (2800). Two hundred seventy two (272) people are in quarantine based on contact tracing investigations carried out by CPS.

The Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (VSA) Airport Health Team in collaboration with Health Care Laboratory Sint Maarten (HCLS) have tested 3, 523 travelers arriving at the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA), while CPS tested 37, 841 people throughout the community.
