Sint Maarten now rejects apologies
If the cabinet apologizes on Monday for the slavery past of the Netherlands, Sint Maarten will not accept it. First, Prime Minister Jacobs wants the island’s advisory committee to have had a consultation about it and that “we as a country have had a discussion”.
Jacobs delivered this message on Wednesday when she addressed parliament. She then also said that she has asked the Dutch cabinet for an explanation, but that she has not yet received an answer.

Als het kabinet maandag zijn excuses aanbiedt voor het slavernijverleden van Nederland, dan zal Sint Maarten die niet accepteren. Eerst wil premier Jacobs dat het adviescomité van het eiland er een overleg over heeft gehad en dat “we als land een discussie hebben gevoerd” .
Jacobs kwam woensdag met deze boodschap toen ze het parlement toesprak. Ze zei toen ook dat ze het Nederlandse kabinet om uitleg heeft gevraagd, maar dat ze nog geen antwoord heeft ontvangen.
Verwacht wordt dat het kabinet maandag met excuses komt, hoewel dat nog niet is bevestigd.Het plan leidde tot kritiek, onder meer vanwege gebrek aan overleg.
