44,050 Vaccines Delivered To BES (Bonaire, Eustatius, Saba) and CAS (Curacao, Aruba, St Maarten). This week, 44,050 vaccines will be delivered to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. These include both Moderna and BioNTech / Pfizer vaccines. The advice of the Health Council is also followed on the islands. Vaccinations of the elderly (over 60) and care workers will start. About 94 thousand islanders fall into this group. The first vaccines have already been administered on Aruba, the other islands will start vaccinating next week.
Bonaire, Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten will receive more than 40,000 vaccines with the first shipment, which they will administer in the coming weeks. St. Eustatius and Saba are an exception. Both islands together have approximately 3,800 inhabitants. They will all be offered their vaccination in one round and will receive the Moderna vaccine. In total, more than 340,000 islanders aged 18 and older are offered a vaccine. The aim is to have all vaccines (for the first and second vaccinations) delivered before the start of the hurricane season. This depends on the availability of vaccines.

Collaboration in preparation for vaccination program

The islands are organizationally ready to start. The RIVM National Institute for Health and Environment delivered the necessary storage equipment to the various islands during a working visit in January. The implementation plans of the islands were also tested and the people involved in the logistics process were trained in cold chain and vaccine management.

With the start of vaccination in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, the vaccination program is gaining momentum. From this week, all parties involved are vaccinating. The three different vaccines available are also used: BioNTech / Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca. This week, the millionth vaccine has been distributed to the vaccinating parties. This weekend we expect the millionth shot.
